This proverbial statement means that if we expect or anticipant anything great, magnificent or splendid, we may have to be disappointed when we actually see that thing.Robert Lynd has said this statement to means that if we have expectations regarding anything we are sure to be disappointed. We would have seen many people saying that is not that much magnificent or great that I had expected. Before seeing Yarrow, words worth had high anticipations regarding it. But when he actually saw it, he disappointed and said if that was Yarrow of his imagination similarly we may imagine a place of historical importance greatly and extraordinarily fascinating but when we actually see it we may be disappointed. Instead if we see it unexpectedly, we will be greatly delighted. So anticipating a thing greatly reduces our pleasure and sometimes becomes the enemy of pleasure.
