Things to grow in your new Greenhouse

Posted by admin On October - 25 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

I’ve been busy posting on the gardening forums this month picking the brains of Britains gardeners for tips on what to grow in my new greenhouse. I’ve been on Garden Banter and got some great tips except from one poster who called me a moron! Be warned if you a forum newbie and easily offended (the best thing to do is ignore this sort of comment and focus instead on the positive and constructive replies). Another good forum which is better moderated is attached to one of my favourite gardening magazines, Grow Your Own, you can easily find the forum from the website which is www.growfruitandveg.co.uk

Initially a lot of people suggest tomatoes which are a popular choice for the greenhouse but I find them a bit boring. What I have always enjoyed growing are herbs. I don’t know how I got into it but I remember growing about a dozen different types of herbs in my Dad’s aluminium greenhouse when I was about ten years young. I can’t remember all of them but definitely had some sage in there amongst some other more exotic specimins. So my plan is to grow any type of herb that can be used in cooking. Adding herbs to food is such a great way to increase both the taste and nutritional value of a meal.

Since my children have grown up a bit I have a bit more time to myself. I have always enjoyed gardening but am not that keen when it is raining. Yes I admit to being a bit of a fair weather gardener, I don’t mind the cold I just don’t venture out much when it’s wet. However since I invested in a greenhouse last summer I now get to enjoy a bit of pruning even when it pouring.

I really enjoy the calm enviroment of my green house which is further inhanced by the lovely view I have of the surrounding valley. I’ve also put up a bird table and hung some bird food from nearby trees and I now have a resident woodpecker that regularly visits my garden.

There are several types of greenhouses for sale in the UK depending on what your own needs are. Whilst it is nice to have a large one it depends on what space you have available in your garden and perhaps more importantly your budget. So choose wisely and you’ll be as happy as my my herbs.

Remote computer tools have evolved greatly over the years. Find out what the future hold for them.

During the past decade, use of Remote Desktop Software solutions has been widespread. The most common form of remote desktop tools is the PC to PC access model, where one regular PC connects to another one in order to control the desktop and access data. While there are still hundreds of programs out there which can do just that, there are some changes on the horizon. Many technology sources have reported that use of PC to PC remote desktop programs is on the decrease. Why is there a lower demand?

The primary reason would be the fact that remote connection features are now included in many operating systems (such as Windows 7), as well as certain other programs, like the ever popular Skype, which includes a desktop sharing feature now. Given the fact that these features can satisfy the needs of a large number of users, these same users do not see any reason as to why they would pay for a separate remote connection program if they can get it for free.

The rise of cloud based remote computer tools is also partly responsible. A cloud server has a big advantage over the classic PC to PC model. Servers are located in professional data centers. Therefore, reliability and security are greatly increased. If all your work documents, or at least the ones that you need to use while traveling, are located on a cloud server, then you would not see any need to keep your main PC on all that time just so that you can remotely connect to it.

One thing that people may ask is: does this mean dark times for makers of PC to PC remote computer software. According to industry trends, not exactly. The software development and IT fields are industries where change is rapid, frequent and embraced fully. You can already see many software vendors developing products that are more in line with projected changes in technology and usage patterns. For example, certain companies are focusing their efforts on making applications that let users control a computer from a smart phone, which is something that is in high demand right now and is expected to stay that way for the next decade.

Also, a lot of developers are releasing their PC to PC remote connection software tools for free, while they focus on more powerful enterprise solutions. These are the “professional” versions of remote computer programs, which have advanced features not needed by most individual and small business users, such as the ability to control dozens of computers at the same time, specialized solutions for providing remote technical support, server and network administration features which allows the program not only to control individual PCs, but also other types of hardware such as routers, switches and servers, etc.
